Great Britain had a large population of workers so most of those workers didn't have a job. England had a load of natural resources on it. The workers decided to make a new jobs involving these materials resulting in new inventions and machines to be developed. Water power and coal powered machines were used to smelt iron ore into new products and harbors were improved on for new purposes of trading.
